How Being Bullied As a Child Affects Us As Adults

Posted in Society

Almost every adult can attest to being bullied as a child. It can be a very traumatic experience that damages a child leaving them with no self-confidence and mentally unable to concentrate in their school work. Bullying involves being picked on by another child or children. It may involve pushing, kicking around, threatening them, making nasty remarks, sidelining them and so on. Victims of bullying are ashamed to admit they are suffering and may go through the act for years before finally confessing to being a victim. While many try to forget the bullying, it stays with them in their subliminal minds for the rest of their lives.

In the past three years, cases of bullying in North America have increased and the latest is by Jamey Rodemeyer, a fourteen year old who killed himself after being bullied for years. He had joined an anti-website and posted a video advising others his age to love themselves and all will be well.

Bullying happens in all schools all the time. Different states are passing laws that criminalize parents whose children engage in bullying. This move forces parents to talk to their children about bullying and that it is an unacceptable behavior in schools and society.

Bullying affects children even into adulthood. The victims of bullying end up being very depressed, antisocial and having poor self-esteem. They may find it difficult to form friendships and even dating may become hard for them. The bullies who get a kick out of hurting other children may go into adulthood as criminals who commit theft, vandalism and even picking fights with other people. These same individuals are likely to become workplace bullies. Victims of bullying are sensitive about any altercations with other people. They may miss work and college if they feel a current situation to be similar to what they went through as a child.

Most schools in the United States are adopting anti bullying initiatives. These involve training teachers and parents to look out for bullying behavior and to report it immediately. Most schools know that victims of bullying are unable to concentrate in school and may join adulthood as drug abusers. If children feel that nothing is being done to alleviate the bullying they go through, they may commit suicide. It is the responsibility of the school and state governments to pass legislation that prohibits bullying of children. A school should provide a safe environment where children will not be bullied based on their sexuality, race, national origin, religion and ethnic background.

Liverpool Day at the Grand National

Kicking off the Aintree John Smith Grand National horse race will be Liverpool day, Thursday 8 April. This is a day dedicated to the great city the race is held in, with a plethora of Liverpool inspired sports, entertainment and music.

To head off the first ever Liverpool day, organizers are taking steps to utilize the great masses who love their sport and try to make that day a bank holiday for the city. Inspired by the Australians who have already set aside a bank holiday for one of their horse races, and not to be outdone, it is now Liverpool’s turn. They are on Facebook, Twitter and even have their own online petition to the Prime Minister that you can sign to help make this a reality.

Until then, they will just have to settle for the best of the best showing up and entertaining at Aintree. If you want to see some of these people you are going to have to get your hands on some tickets because they are going really fast and the time is almost up. For one thing, the Bootleg Beatles, one of the best Beatles tribute bands will be playing. With the recent resurgence of Beatles Mania that has been going around, this is very exciting news. It is only the beginning of the Beatles Mania and a number of other Beatles themed events are planned for Liverpool day including wax sculptures of the four man group. If that isn’t enough excitement, Ricky Tomlinson an actor heralding from Liverpool and best known from his role in the Royal Family is set to be starting off the festivities for Liverpool day as well as the whole horse racing weekend. If this is not the kind of thing you are interested in maybe the hat that has been specially designed, not for Ladies Day which is known for the extravagant hats, but rather for Liverpool day will be unveiled that day. There has been a little leak about the general ideas for what the hat will look like but we won’t have any photos of it until the day of.

Even in all the other excitement, don’t forget that there will be races going on that day. It is not just about the music and entertainment, but really it is about the wonderful world of horse races that draws crowds to these grounds, and it remains one of Liverpool’s favorite sports.

Making at home summer plans

Money may be a bit short nowadays and that European vacation you were thinking about taking may not even be on your radar anymore. That’s fine; more people are deciding to keep their money in their pocket instead of going all out on a vacation. But there are still some great ways you can have fun without breaking the bank.

One option is that you can just stay home instead of taking a trip. The staycation is becoming ever more popular since most people’s expendable income has had a bit taken out of it due to the economy. There are some great things you can do in your very own backyard, or at least your friend’s backyard. So you should still take off your week of summer vacation except you might just not go anywhere.

The first thing you should look into is anything you have always wanted to do in the city you live in and just never had the time to do it. Check out any local museums or other cultural things in your area.

Look to nearby states for a little fun. Remember the old fashioned road trip? They were fun right? Well get your friends to pile into a car and take a road trip to a nearby landmark. You could even just make it a day trip; a little escape goes a long way.

Or you could stay at home and upgrade your yard. Haven’t you always wanted a Jacuzzi hot tub? Check out the business of Steve Barbarich choosehottubdirect.com for luxury hot tubs at whole sale prices.

Or you could just g to Home Depot or Lowes to pick up that barbecue grill that you have always wanted. They are relatively cheap and a great way to have a party or invite friends over. Have a happy summer even if you stay at home.
