Live Outdoor Music Festivals in Austin
Austin, Texas is self described as the music capital of the world. This is a major reputation to live up to and there are few, if any, cities that would dispute this. It is also the location of some of the most famous and prestigious outdoor music festivals in the country and it is extremely popular with both fans and musicians. Many people consider themselves to have arrived when they appear on the popular PBS program Austin City Limits, and the outdoor festival that was established and named after it presents world-class performers as well as those who are in the early developmental stages of their careers. This festival as well as South By Southwest are two of the major musical events in the country. With other festivals like the Old Settler’s Festival , the outdoor music scene in Austin is pretty active all year long.
The ACL festival occurs in October while the SXSW and Old Settler’s events occur in the spring. In addition to the great music that is presented during the SXSW, the festival also showcases quality independent films, which is a growing and important aspect of the festival. The Old Settler’s Festival is dedicated to the performers of early American musical genres such as bluegrass, blues and jazz. It features some of the top musicians in these genres and also includes arts, crafts and plenty of food and drink. This is one of the more popular family music festivals and is frequently children’s main exposure to these great genres.
Attending music festivals and live outdoor performances is built into the culture of Austin and is one of its greatest attractions for many people who visit the city. In addition, it is the main live performance destination for musicians from across the country as well as the international scene. And while the hotels in Austin are frequently full of music lovers the campgrounds and tent areas near the festival grounds are also full of happy music appreciators.
