Austin, Texas is self described as the music capital of the world. This is a major reputation to live up to and there are few, if any, cities that would dispute this. It is also the location of some of the most famous and prestigious outdoor music festivals in the country and it is extremely popular with both fans and musicians. Many people consider themselves to have arrived when they appear on the popular PBS program Austin City Limits, and the outdoor festival that was established and named after it presents world-class performers as well as those who are in the early developmental stages of their careers. This festival as well as South By Southwest are two of the major musical events in the country. The ACL festival occurs in October while the SXSW and Old Settler’s events occur in the spring. I’m not a fan of classic rock. It’s not that I don’t like it, I just never listened to it and am not that familiar with most of the artists or songs. So I was less than enthusiastic when my friend made me watch this video but… it’s hilarious!! There is a whole serious of these “literal videos” on youtube. Even if you’re not a fan of the music, they’re pretty entertaining.

One of the cultural aspects that the city of London is known for and in fact has become legendary is its contribution to the development and popularity of rock and roll, which has affectionately been titled the British Invasion. The 1960s saw a tremendous amount of musical and cultural transition occur in this country and London has frequently led the way with major social trends in the United States, for instance the Puritans were popular there and then imported to the States. Okay, that was a bit of humor but it was also true. Meanwhile the contributions England has made to the American music scene cannot be overstated, or appreciated.

The Beatles are the most famous example of bands that arrived in the States as part of the British Invasion . In fact, they are commonly considered to be the essence of it. Their historic arrival in the US and subsequent appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show are an unforgettable and amazing part of this country’s history and the transition it initiated can never be returned from. I Want to Hold Your Hand was the first song of the Beatles that had aired on the American radio and from that moment, fans went wild and never returned.

Other bands that were associated with music from England during the following couple of years include major names like The Rolling Stones.

This is another major world band that has been an essential part of the American music scene since they first arrived here. The band formed in 1962 and Mick Jagger has been the man face, voice and force behind the band’s fame and popularity since that time. They continue to perform to sellout crowds and their music is heard throughout the country on a daily basis. There were many other bands and musicians that were part of this invasion and Donovan, The Kinks, Petula Clark are just a few of them. Boston, Massachusetts is one of the oldest cities in the country and is also one of those that predates the establishment of the United States itself. It is an extremely popular place for tourists to visit and in addition to the fabulous historical landmarks that can be found in the city and the numerous cultural attractions the music scene is thriving and extremely popular with residents as well as tourists visiting Boston . Kicking off the Aintree John Smith Grand National horse race will be Liverpool day, Thursday 8 April. This is a day dedicated to the great city the race is held in, with a plethora of Liverpool inspired sports, entertainment and music.

To head off the first ever Liverpool day, organizers are taking steps to utilize the great masses who love their sport and try to make that day a bank holiday for the city. Inspired by the Australians who have already set aside a bank holiday for one of their horse races, and not to be outdone, it is now Liverpool’s turn. They are on Facebook, Twitter and even have their own online petition to the Prime Minister that you can sign to help make this a reality.

Until then, they will just have to settle for the best of the best showing up and entertaining at Aintree. If you want to see some of these people you are going to have to get your hands on some tickets because they are going really fast and the time is almost up. For one thing, the Bootleg Beatles, one of the best Beatles tribute bands will be playing. With the recent resurgence of Beatles Mania that has been going around, this is very exciting news. It is only the beginning of the Beatles Mania and a number of other Beatles themed events are planned for Liverpool day including wax sculptures of the four man group. If that isn’t enough excitement, Ricky Tomlinson an actor heralding from Liverpool and best known from his role in the Royal Family is set to be starting off the festivities for Liverpool day as well as the whole horse racing weekend. If this is not the kind of thing you are interested in maybe the hat that has been specially designed, not for Ladies Day which is known for the extravagant hats, but rather for Liverpool day will be unveiled that day. There has been a little leak about the general ideas for what the hat will look like but we won’t have any photos of it until the day of.

Even in all the other excitement, don’t forget that there will be races going on that day. It is not just about the music and entertainment, but really it is about the wonderful world of horse races that draws crowds to these grounds, and it remains one of Liverpool’s favorite sports.

Columbia, Maryland is located in close proximity to Washington DC and is considered to be a suburb of Baltimore. These two major cities have an affect on the culture of Columbia, while in turn Columbia has an affect on them as well. The city is full of its own cultural establishments and beautiful get-away accommodations and is incredibly attractive to regional residents for a weekend’s stay. The Merriweather Post Pavilion is one of the more popular establishments of the city and also represents some of its cultural heritage. It was first opened in 1967 after construction of the facility was complete. Some of the major international and sometimes legendary solo performers and bands to have played at the pavilion include The Who, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix . Jimmy Buffet, Jackson Browne and the Kinks have also played at the venue, which seats over 19,000 people. The concert featuring the Who and Led Zeppelin was the only time the two bands appeared on the same bill. The National Symphony Orchestra, which performed at the opening ceremony for the pavilion, is based in Washington DC. The pavilion is just one of the major cultural establishments of this city that in the past has been overshadowed by its neighbors. However, every year Columbia becomes more attractive as a vacation destination and people from al over the country are choosing to visit it.

For many years, Philadelphia was seen as a kind of suburb to Manhattan, where people would be able to enjoy a similar urban environment, with a little less noise and a lot less rent. There are some very romantic old Lindau hotels to stay in while you visit this wonderful German island. Imagine yourself sitting on the balcony of a 1800s hotel sipping on some of the local Riesling. While you wonder around this tiny island that sits on the northeast corner of the stunning Lake Constance. Being the only island of Bavaria it is a special place to the area and is waiting to be the place of special moments in the hearts of its visitors.

If you feel up to some water adventures after you easy strolls on land, there are a few things you can do. You could rent a row boat or a paddle boat and head out into the lake itself. You could also find a sail boat large or small to spend the afternoon using the wind to get you around the water. Maybe you would like to get into the water by doing some water skiing. There’s always time for your favorite hobbies, and it’s important to remember that the way people spend their spare time is how they really like to live. But it’s never all that surprising to learn that young people like to drive fast. There might be any number of certain sociological factors that go into the need for speed, and it most certainly comes from the lore of love for the automobile. Taylor Swift can probably be very articulate about why she likes fast driving, but chances are, this country music sensation will be better off singing about it.

It seems like everything she touches turns to gold these days. When she makes a new record, Swiftranks higher than anyone else on the charts, because her music is, like her driving, unstoppable. She certainly can’t be slowed down, and there’s no reason to see any kind of slowing. It’s one of those celebrity phenomena, where the young talent, in this case just two decades old, will find her own drive met with equal enthusiasm from record producers and a hungry public. It’s a sure formula for success, but it’s one that we’ve learned over the years to be a bit wary of. There are too many stories about fantastically talented young people who got famous too quickly, and didn’t know how to handle it.

There’s good reasons, however, to suspect that Swift does know how to handle the elusive mutual attraction fame has toward her. Her songwriting keeps getting steadily more self-assured, and simultaneously more revelatory, as the records go by.
