Learning a second language can be a challenge, and this grows more true the older we get and the less removed from brain puzzles and mentally stimulating activities we become. That sentence was not meant to discourage or depress anyone, nor should it dampen our interest in learning. Regardless of our age and education levels, learning a second language is not only great for our brains but can also enrich our lives and expand our cultural horizons. For instance, if we are socialized as bi-lingual individuals we already have an advantage over mono-linguists in our associative and abstract thinking capacities. In fact, this is actually a counter argument to the speaking only English in schools and other public facilities campaign. The opponents argue that the true reason for this is that the minority children who are typically bi-lingual in language orientation will have an inherent advantage over the dominant mono-lingual culture. This is furthered by the reality that many high school students are required to take a second language and it is almost always a requirement for an undergraduate college degree. If you enter into these phases of your academic career already fluent in another language, not only is your mind already at an advantage, but you are light years ahead of your classmates who speak one language only.

Never minding the political associations to language and the inherent disadvantage to being mono-lingual, learning a new language is a great idea for anyone. And it can certainly boost most career and income potentials to be bi-lingual, particularly when this is in English and either French or Spanish. And while French is actually more largely spoken around the world, Spanish is by far the more used language in the United States. However, it still holds true that if you can speak both French and English you are likely going to be able to communicate to someone in almost every country of the world. Of course the majority of people learning a new language are unlikely to tour the world, you can imagine the impact on your vacation if you know the language of the indigenous culture. If you are an adult who is considering learning a new language, first you should be congratulated, and then you should be made aware that there is some good news. It might be a challenge, but there are a variety of resources available to you in real time/existence as well as online and with various software programs. And regardless of whether your learning one of the major and most popularly used ones or some abstract language, there are some great Spanish games , French worksheets and language programs that will support you along the way. These are also extremely useful if you’re planning your study at a college or other classroom setting.

Connecticut is home to some of the best colleges the United States has to offer. Students come from all across the country to attend colleges in this charming and historic state. Its’ top rate colleges and moderate climate make it attractive for many prospective college students. Students can experience the four seasons throughout the year including colder temperatures during the winter months when most classes are held. For anyone who is interested in going to school in Connecticut the top four colleges by recent ranking are Yale University, University of Connecticut, Wesleyan University and Quinnipiac University.

Yale is by far the most popular school in Connecticut for many reasons. It has a long legacy of turning out brilliant students who go on to do great things. The name itself is known by many. It is located in New Haven and includes undergraduate, Graduate and professional programs. Class sizes are average but the overall student population is around 11,000 by recent numbers. The college itself has a history that extends well into the 1600′s making it an extraordinary place to be to become a part of history. The campus is beautiful and is complete with restaurants, shopping and hotels in the surrounding areas. The only downside to this outstanding college is the cost of tuition is a little bit higher than other schools in the area.

The second most popular college is the University of Connecticut. University of Connecticut is located in Storrs and also offers undergraduate, Graduate and professional programs. The student population far exceeds that of Yale with an amazing 30,034 enrollees for 2010 alone. The University is popular because of its’ wide array of available programs and distinguished faculty. Students continue to receive awards and recognition throughout its history. The campus boasts a wide range of attractions including restaurants, museums and theatres.

The third most popular college is Wesleyan University. Wesleyan University is located in Middletown and is a considerably smaller school than the previous rankings. The student population tops out around 3,000 including undergraduate and graduate degrees. This school is attractive because of its’ charm. It overlooks the Connecticut River and is quaint compared to other schools in the area. It deserves recognition because of the top notch athletics teams they put forward. The campus is moderate in size and also holds all the amenities students need to survive campus life.

Last but not least, the fourth most popular college is Quinnipiac University. This university if located in Hamden right in the heart of New England. Quinnipiac is another beautiful campus that includes all the needed amenities. Tuition is moderate compared to other schools reaching an average total cost of around $49,000. This university is popular because of the wide range of degree programs offered and the moderate cost of tuition. Plus, it is located close to several major cities making it an attractive place for many students.

Is a college degree still worth the time and money? The thoughtfully considered answer is – It depends.
The answer depends on the your abilities and ambitions, your school’s skills and costs, your field of study, your intended occupation, your method of payment, and many other questions that you will encounter as you progress through your school selection and admissions process.
The generic answer is,
Yes- the need for specialized education beyond high school for careers in law, medicine, engineering, teaching and others is obvious. The higher education is absolutely required; and the financial rewards are definite.
Even so, you must be careful to:
• Choose a career for which the added educational expense will pay.
• Attend a school that produces competent graduates.
• Avoid contracting onerous debts for tuition, fees and living expenses.
Your answers to the same questions, as related to careers normally considered less financially rewarding than those above, become more complex. The classic liberal arts education can be just as beneficial as those described if you select a minor and elective courses pointed at your anticipated vocation, or a range of vocations requiring similar abilities.
For example, if you are considering a career in the insurance business a foreign language selected to match the minority ethnic group in your geographic area will definitely be a wise choice. The most common entry position in the insurance industry would be that of a salesman or producer as the position is known in the trade. A bilingual ability will definitely broaden your potential client pool. You may also benefit by inheriting potential clients from other non-bilingual agents. And, the potential for a promotion into the management ranks will be enhanced by your ability to perform with non English speaking clients and agents alike.
Your education should not stop with graduation. Today, continuing education is the norm. For a career in insurance, you are likely to have an opportunity to expand your proffered products to include investment counseling, estate planning, and general financial planning. Plan to study at your alma mater, another college, or through one of the excellent Insurance CE programs available online. So, is a college degree still worth the time and money? Definitely, Yes, but it is up to you to plan effectively, and make the right school and funding choices for your career.

As a result, young college students sometimes have to take out student loans to cover the cost of their education. If you are looking into this option, make sure you do your research ahead of time and pay attention to these 5 tips for taking out the right student loan.

1. First of all, file for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
The FAFSA is needed for federal student and parent loans. The unsubsidized Stafford and PLUS loans do not require you to need financial aid, so you do not need to be have low income to qualify for the federal education loans.

2. Secondly, make sure you keep your debt as low as possible.
Live within your means while you are in college. Borrow only what you need for school and not any more. Make a budget of what you will really need. If you borrow a dollar, it will cost you about two dollars by the time you’ve repaid the debt.

3. Try to borrow from federal loans before trying to get any others.
Federal student loans tend to be cheaper. They are also easier to pay back than the private loans. The interest rates on federal education loans will stay the same. You will not have to worry about the rate changing. The interest rates on most private student loans can vary. These rates may increase in time. Check with your college student aid office about getting federal student loans.

4. Make sure you think ahead.
When you graduate your debt should be less than your future salary. You really want it to be less than half of your future salary. If your debt is more, it will be hard to pay back. If you borrow more than your future salary, you will need a longer term plan to repay it. Extending the repayment plan will increase the amount of interest you will pay while you have the loan.

5. Apply for private student loans with a trustworthy cosigner.
Maybe a family member with good credit ratings will cosign the loan. This will improve your chances of getting the loan and hopefully with a lower interest rate. The cosigner is equally responsible to repay the debt.
All in all, be sure you take your time, know all your options and if you need help be sure to consult a policy expert.

Knowing whether golf school is right for you is ultimately going to be a decision only you can make. There are, however, some questions you can ask yourself in order to get to a final answer.

Do you love Golf? If golf isn’t just a sport to you but an actual way of life worthy of a capital letter, then the odds are that you would be happiest in a career that lets you express that love and contribute to the game in some way or other. Getting a golf degree will put you in the perfect position for a wide range of jobs in the golf industry so that you can meld your passion with your career.

Are you a top player? Golf schools have a dual focus. The first is on the game itself. Every student is expected to continue working on their game and learning new skills and techniques. This additional training can be the difference between being an amateur and a professional player, which is why many aspiring pros attend golf school. Given that the other focus of golf school is on business, it will also give you the knowledge and business skills you’ll need to navigate a professional career.

Are you looking for a career with good job and earning potential? The golf industry has been growing for the last decade. There are literally thousands of jobs available at courses, tours, schools, and golf businesses. Some of these jobs involve travel across the country or around the world. Salaries are competitive, especially for those who have a management degree and have completed a successful internship.

So, the question is in your hands: should you go to golf school?

The idea of being a game warden, like that of a forest ranger , hearkens back to an earlier way of life. To a time when humans depending on hunting, fishing, and the wilderness in order to survive. In these days when society has become more removed from these basic instincts and environments, there are still many people who seek out careers that allow them to spend time outdoors.

There are even special degree programs for those who want to become game wardens. Most people don’t realize that, at a minimum, most states require a bachelor’s degree for applicants. This position requires a knowledge of law enforcement principles and tactics as well as an understanding of wildlife and wilderness environments.

The competition for game warden positions is tough. There are usually many more applicants than positions and people are willing to apply for jobs far from their hometowns. This gives applicants with specialized degrees and extensive fish and game experience or previous law enforcement work the edge in being hired.

Game wardens are responsible for enforcing the state’s fish and wildlife code, including laws pertaining to boating, hunting, and fishing. They are frequently called upon to help in search and rescue operations and to help remove dangerous wildlife from residential areas. They must be in good physical condition and pass polygraph tests and background checks.

At some point in their educational career every child questions the practicality of what they are learning. Knowing how many marbles Jim, Bob, and Suzy each have left at the end of the game may not seem too important or relevant in the third grade but the concepts are lasting. There is a lot of learning to be done in the classroom that will help to build a strong foundation for the future; however, getting out of the classroom and experiencing life first-hand is important as well.

Out of classroom learning is important at all levels of the education process. In elementary school students go on numerous field trips to museums, parks, and even businesses. At the Arizona Science Center students learn first hand how clouds are formed and gravity works. At the fire station they learn important safety lessons. All of this helps build a base for future learning.

As children grow older, many schools offer opportunities to volunteer and work briefly in a profession that interests them. When they reach college they are able to take on internships. Internships not only give students hands-on experience but also guidance. At Southwestern Company , students interested in careers in business and sales attend training sessions that teach them important leadership and sales skills. Southwestern company trainers encourage students and help to guide them in the right direction. Whatever field of study students choose, a good internship builds on the classroom knowledge and forms a foundation for future experience.

From the first day of kindergarten and learning the ABC’s to graduating from college with a business degree, the classroom is a major part of the learning process. It is in the classroom that the foundation is laid and built upon year after year. Not all of it will be used on a daily basis in the future, but all of it combines to give us that solid foundation we need to make it beyond the classroom. Then when we step outside and begin to experience life and work first hand, we already have a strong background to lean on.

In addition to being the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia could be called the city of quality advanced education. There are many colleges and universities in the city that are at both the state and private status. In addition there are specialized training programs and general degree opportunities. Many of the residents of the Philadelphia are happy to remain in their home city and attend one of the quality schools located there. Philadelphia University, Temple University and Drexel University are some of the widely recognized quality academic institutions of the city, though they are certainly not all Philadelphia has to offer.

Philadelphia University is a small private school that was founded in 1884. The original mission of the institution was to raise the level of art and technology of the American textile industry to international standards. And while this was an incredibly ambitious initial mission, the school has grown and added new programs and areas of study while retaining its strong standards of excellence. Drexel University is another private school and it was founded seven years after PU in 1891. It has a larger student body than PU and was originally established by the noted philanthropist Anthony J Drexel as an institute of art, science and industry. Two of the more prestigious and recent additions to the university are the College of Medicine and School of Law.

Temple University is a major public research university in Philadelphia. It is also the largest of the three mentioned schools with a total student body of around 40,000 students. It is one of the state’s three public research schools, along with Penn State and the University of Pittsburgh. The school is consistently rated as being among the top ten research schools in the nation and it is the 26th largest university in the country. Temple was established in the same year as PU, which marked the beginning of a great academic tradition in the city.

These schools are also city landmarks and frequently have major cultural attractions and various performances going on. Information on the campuses is usually available at some of the luxury Philadelphia hotels .

Naropa University is located in Boulder Colorado. It is a private liberal arts university and was the first in the nation to become a Buddhist inspired accredited institution. The school was founded in 1974 by Chogyam Trunga, a Tibetan Buddhist teacher. These are some of the basic factors Alice presented to her parents when she told them she wanted to complete her graduate studies at this university. Her parents were already aware of this school since they lived in Denver, which wasn’t very far. This idea alone provided them with an almost instant support of their daughter’s interest. However, as with all responsible parents and students, they decided to make a quick trip to the campus before Alice applied.

The family decided to make a complete weekend out of the experience and book a couple of rooms in one of the Boulder hotels. And while they had been to Boulder on several occasions in the past it was always for one particular reason or another and they never really spent time touring or experiencing the city. Their first stop would be the Naropa campus, which Alice immediately fell in love with. Her parents agreed that it was beautiful and had a great atmosphere for an academic institution. The campus alone, however, was not enough of a reason to base one’s graduate studies decision on.

So, they family investigated the programs and were completely interested in the Theatre program. It was an MFA in Contemporary Performance and integrated the physical aspects of performance with various theoretical viewpoints. They were particularly interested in how the traditional contemplative practices were incorporated into the study. Alice, however, was completely interested in the Somatic Counseling Psychology. She wanted to focus on body psychotherapy. Her parents were supportive of this and thought it probably offered a bit more job stability options. They spoke with some of the staff and instructors and Alice left Boulder more sure than ever that she wanted to attend Naropa. She immediately prepared her application and her parents were relieved she would be so near.

So, you have done was is necessary as far as years of preparation before even applying to the law school of your choice. Now what? Now how do you find a way to pay for this degree? A friend of mine attempted to work part time during her first year in the College of Law at Arizona State University, however, she almost crashed and burned. We didn’t have the Internet back then and information was not at our fingertips.

Now it is very simple to look up questions and find quick answers. She did not know that the first year of law school would prove to be the most demanding, not only of her time, but her effort as well. The next year she quit her part time job and started to look into other ways of funding her education, that would free up the time she required to continue on with her studies. Depending on which school you choose the range of tuition costs varies quite a bit.

And any college student becomes aware very quickly that not only is tuition an expense to be considered, so to is food, housing, books and just all around living expenses. Solutions to this problem are also varied. While work study is an option is generally advised to this only further along in your years of study. Grants are often a pain to apply for, a lot of paperwork, however this is money that you will not be required to pay back.

So to are scholarship applications daunting to fill out, however again, there is nothing better than graduating free of debt and ready to begin your life in anyone of the law offices throughout the country? So if neither of these apply, grants are based on need and scholarships are based on academic achievement the next and very viable option is the taking out of student loans. In the case of loans, it is best to have a financial advisor offer advice, as the interest rates may vary and in the end you may end up paying close to twice as much as your original loan.
