Bryant Lake in Minneapolis

Posted in Travel

There’s something that’s terribly compelling about the Twin Cities, and it’s especially powerful for those who might not expect it. Most people understand about the snow (although, truth be known, no one really understands about the cold, it’s far too unearthly to understand), and most know it’s one of the most livable cities on lots of indexes. But there are always people who come to the five star hotels Minneapolis offers, just to check it out and see what the fuss is about. It’s rather large, this fuss, and there are plenty of reasons to love what happens here.

Not only are there the usual restaurants and pubs that make a downtown great, and local neighborhoods interesting and colorful, there is also a culture for nearly everything here. That includes the fine arts, like dance, classical music, theatre, and bowling.

Well, if bowling isn’t a fine art, leave it to the midwest to make it one. This isn’t a usual thing here, however, but something peculiar to Minneapolis. It might be the only one in the world, but everyone who comes to Bryant-Lake Bowl is convinced this is a terribly charming idea. One half of the building is a bowling alley, and the other half a theatre. The actors do get used to the pins falling, and so does the audience, but the cool factor never gets old.

Inspired Web Design

Posted in Technology

Learning an art form is something that can take a year or two for the basics, but needs a lifetime to master. However, it’s very possible that the internet is offering a chance to level the playing field altogether, making it possible for all levels of artistry to enter the game. For web designers, the creation of a truly excellent design takes every bit as much expertise as any other art form. But they also recognize that excellence in design doesn’t transmit to sales or traffic, and often the artistic principles seem to have little to do with a site’s popularity.

It’s still important to pay close attention to elements of web design , where the overall look needs to have some artistic merit. This is because the principles of art and design are based on how people perceive color and space, and can make the difference between an eye-catching site or one that gets passed by. It’s also a feather in the cap to have a site that drives traffic but also meets design principles, because artistic flourishes can make an experience more interesting. That’s not to say that a site should strive to be sublime, but if there’s room for a bit of the sublime in the practical functions of the site, then why not?

The Natural Beauty of Wood Shutters

Posted in Home & Garden

Many of the exterior window shutters you find at your local hardware or home improvement stores are relatively inexpensive, but they are normally the non-functional type that can’t be stained or painted. Wood shutters are the most traditional material, but with today’s new materials such as fiberglass, aluminum, vinyl and composite materials are becoming the material of choice.

Shutters have appeared as a long lasting, affordable and safer choice by offering protection and security to your home and improve upon the general look of your home. Shutter companies are now manufacturing shutters in varied sizes, patterns, and shades. This way, you are not limited to a few choices offered by your local home improvement stores.

No matter what, you will be happy if you buy custom or standard size shutters and pleased with how they have been manufactured and engineered to last a very long time and stay maintenance free; you’ll especially like how they ensure a level of protection and security. Even if you’re still looking for the traditional wood window shutter, with the new composite materials, they can easily be made to look like wood, but without all the hassles that comes with any solid wood products, like warping and peeling paint. If it’s still wood you’d like, all exterior window shutter companies offer a nice selection of wood shutters that will handsomely hang next to any window and create the natural look you desire.

Boston Knows Carell

Posted in Travel

For anyone who’s ever questioned the power of community on the East Coast, a rather sheepish answer lies hidden somewhere in Steve Carell ‘s smile. It’s true that the neighborhoods in the big cities like Boston have long and spectacular histories, and the residents who know the histories are very loyal to their block. It’s also true that families that have been here for a long time do have a kind of seniority in terms of how changes are determined in the area. More often than not, however, East Coast cities are characterized by their coldness and sense of alienation. Populations come and go very quickly, looking at new cities to live and try out new lives, only to leave and make room for the next batch.

Steve Carell is an interesting guy, and one of his most recent moves has been to change this, but in a characteristically interesting way. He’s definitely got Boston in his blood, and proves the old adage about taking the boy out of the city. His allegiances to the area are really rather heartening, offering one more reason to look into a boutique hotel Boston USA might offer. Born in Concord, raised in Acton, he also had some very fond memories of Marshfield Hills. This is an old suburb that’s really a village, and Carell is proving that it takes a village to re-raise a village store. Or it takes Carell. Or him and his family. And the village, too.

However that works itself out, he bought a place in Marshfield Hills in order to have a respite from the busy lifestyle he’s picked up in Los Angeles (and New York). But where most people might decide on a fancy place, and an attitude of begged anonymity, he’s bought the old general store , and takes an active part in its day-to-day operations. He did this without the intention of making a lot of money, because he seems to have that part figured out. Instead, it was the opportunity to save a historic landmark, and to keep an open space where the community could gather. It’s not necessarily the funniest thing he’s ever done, but it certainly brings a smile to people’s faces.

Dallas Cowboys: New Season New Stadium

Posted in Sports

The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most beloved football teams in America — setting a record of 160 sold-out games in the early 1990s. Even if you aren’t a fan of football, you can’t help but cheer the Cowboys on to victory if you happen to catch a game. Of course, the guys always enjoy watching the Cowboys cheerleaders take the field for the half-time show in their traditional blue and white uniforms and cowboy boots.

The incredible winning record that the Cowboys have set is a large part of what makes them a great team. Since their formation in 1960 the Cowboys have made it to the playoffs 30 times with 21 division championships, 10 conference championships, and five Super Bowl championships. They also had a streak of 20 consecutive winning seasons. It is no wonder the fans love to watch the Cowboys play and collect memorabilia from Dallas Cowboys watches to team jerseys.

With so much hard work and such a great record, it is only fitting that Cowboys receive some sort of compensation for their efforts. And just in time for the 2009 season they did — a brand new stadium. Cowboys Stadium, located in Arlington, Texas, costs over $1.3 billion to build and currently holds the record for the largest domed stadium in the world. With seating for up to 100,000, the Cowboys will have to work hard if they want to have sellout games here. A special feature of the Cowboy stadium is the giant t.v. screen/ scoreboard. With 2,100 in screen hanging over the center of the field, a fan at the game of the Dallas Cowboys watches as easily and comfortably as a fan at home while still enjoying the live experience.

Although the 2009 season got off to a rough start — losing their first home game in their new stadium — they ultimately pulled off a winning season and made it to the playoffs only to lose to the Minnesota Vikings. Even though they didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, you can rest assured the fans will still come and are greatly looking forward to all excitement that the 2010 season will hold.
