Without question, the number one item in your suitcase must be your bathing suit, or several if you want to make some variation in your beach fashion statements! Because the sun is strong and sometimes relentless, be sure to bring a wide brim hat and a sun visor. As Hawaii is closest to the equator, the sun will be quite intense. And because there are so many outdoor activities to enjoy, you surely will be outside most of the time. Bring your favorite and most efficient sun screen. Even though there are many stores where you can get refills, it is best to put on your block even before disembarking once you arrive. You don’t want to be sporting an annoying sunburn on Hawaii cruises that will cause you any type of discomfort or undermine your fun. Make sure the sunblock has a SPF of at least 30. Bring comfortable shoes to walk in as you are sure to be doing a bit of sightseeing, if not a long hike or two. Flip-flops or sandals are a must for the beach. It is also advisable to bring a waterproof container called a “water safe” that you can wear around your neck or in a bathing suit pocket to hold your room keys and money. This is easily bought once your reach the island. Pack your comfy warm-weather clothes such as shorts and tank tops, and bring something to wear during the cool evenings, especially if you will be visiting a mountaintop. Life is casual in Hawaii, so formal wear is not necessary! It is a good idea to bring your own large beach towel, and if you have your own snorkel, mask, and fins, bring them too. Always bring personal identification, such as a driver’s license. If you are taking a vacation to Hawaii with young children, bring an umbrella stroller. Anything else you might need you can always get locally once you arrive on your Hawaii vacation.
