Retirement Plans in Thailand
Thailand is the only country in the world that offers a retirement visa to anyone 50 or older. All that’s required is a passport, a non-immigrant visa, and bank documents showing that you either have $20,000 deposit in a Thailand bank (which doesn’t have to stay there) and or documents showing a monthly income like a pension going into a Thailand bank. Millions visit every year taking advantage of Thailand Luxury Hotels and thousands return to retire among the beauty, the warm-hearted generosity of its people, the excitement of big cities like Bangkok, the exquisite sea-side resorts like Phuket to the quiet country-side living like Chiang Mai.
The retirement visa doesn’t mean you have to retire; far from it. Most will find a jobs teaching English for a small income, but in Thailand not much income is required to live comfortably. There are many Americans living all through out Thailand that have found the easy living to be beneficial to their health due to the stressless lifestyle and to the healthy foods readily available daily from the local farmers markets.
So, for anyone worrying about their future and how they can live off their retirement or you lost your retirement in the recent down turn in the United States, consider Thailand. Initially, yes you have to come up with $20,000 US dollars, but as I mentioned above, it doesn’t have to stay in the bank or you do have to show income coming into a Thailand bank account, but your money will go a long long way. Longer than living in the United States. You’ll be spending the second half of your life experiencing new people and new cultures. You can even travel inexpensively to all the other countries surrounding Thailand and experience even more diverse cultures and people. Or, you can just stay and explore Thailand at your own pace. Do some research on the Internet. Visit Thailand and you too will feel the splendor of all that Thailand offers.

Other advantages that retirees may enjoy in Thailand are: access to quality, affordable medical care, a developed economy, a low crime rate, access to large international airports, a low cost of living, a culture of acceptance to foreigners, an exotic cuisine, a temperate climate, and beautiful beaches.
Some foreigners decide to retire in Thailand and are able to live in the Kingdom with assistance from their social security benefits. An interesting article examines whether a US citizen expatriate is entitled to social security benefits, factors qualifying a citizen for social security benefits, and how much those benefits will be.
